Why Do I feel emotions that are not mine during Family Constellations?

Why Do I feel emotions that are not mine during Family Constellations?
Sensitivity is the ability to perceive and absorb the emotions of other people. This aspect often concerns those who are approaching Family Constellations for the first time, because a very understandable objection immediately arises:
"This emotion is not mine."
And very often, that is true.
This is precisely why sensitivity becomes such a central and valuable element in systemic work.
In Family Constellations, the goal is not to become confused with what does not belong to us, but to learn how to recognize it.
In everyday life, whether we are aware of it or not, we are constantly exposed to the emotions of others. We absorb them, carry them with us, and often do so without even realizing it.
Constellation work offers a protected space in which to develop this capacity consciously. It allows us to perceive what emerges, recognize what belongs to us and what does not.
It is not about becoming more vulnerable, but more aware.
What may initially seem like a destabilizing experience gradually reveals itself as a very practical resource. It becomes a training in presence, healthy boundaries and emotional responsibility.
There is another important aspect to understand: our ability to absorb emotions did not arise by chance. In ancient times, it was an essential resource for survival. If one member of a group perceived a danger, that emotional information could spread quickly to the others, allowing for an immediate and collective response.
It was a shared warning system.
Today, however, the context is completely different. We no longer live in small communities with a few clearly defined roles and rhythms. Instead, we are immersed in multiple environments, relationships, and stimuli at the same time. Every day, we receive fragments of different emotions, often conflicting, coming from people and situations that are far removed from one another.
The very same ability that once helped protect us can now become a source of confusion.
This is precisely where the work of Family Constellations becomes valuable. It helps us distinguish what belongs to the system, what belongs to us and what does not.
It teaches us to remain sensitive without being overwhelmed, present without losing our center.
In this sense, Family Constellations are not merely a tool for understanding; they are a genuine practice of emotional maturation.
